about

Glows new mixtape ‘LA, 1620’ is a collection of material spanning the last 6 years. Voice notes, demos and rehearsal recordings resampled and fused together into a kaleidoscopic coming-of-age soundtrack which flows between the melancholic lights and lows of complicated youth. LA, 1620 is a patchwork of vignettes detailing Skip’s formative years spent in the center of London's experimental creative scene. A collection of songs forged in the times and places which they were made within and by the experiences they became a way of coping with. (GG Skips): “these are the songs that i haven't been able to shake.. i gave out as much as i can emotionally in these songs. I can hear my younger self trying to balance intensity, channeling it. Depression doesn’t have a melody, its a noise, I wanted to make songs from that noise. The noise of selfishness, regret, reparation, forgiveness, repair, support. The positives from this too, healing by working through and reassembling these memories is what this collection of songs represent for me“

Glows is the collaborative project of GG skips (of London band Sorry) and Felix BH. Long term friends, they began collaborating early on at highschool, where they helped form the label and collective Slow Dance, which they release under to to this day. Initially bonding over the burst of experimental electronic and sample based artists at the time such as Four Tet, Fuck Buttons, Jamie xx and Dean Blunt. Coupled with an affinity for psychedelic, expansive concept music such as Gorillaz, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Animal Collective and Mogwai, the duo became influenced by music at full intensity - instrumentals, lyrics and soundscapes with a cinematic narrative quality. Both having trained as visual artists and filmmakers, their collaboration is often rooted in this interplay between visuals and music. Collaborating together throughout university, the audio visual experiments they started in their high school art rooms eventually led them to a commissioned installation at the Royal Academy of Arts.
